PTA REGION 5 MEETING 6-25-09

• What region 5 PTA does well
o Reflections well represented, we get our paperwork in on time.
• Changes we would like see
o Membership more aware of benefits of PTA, more involvement from local PTAs, legislative issues more available, how parents can make a difference, train the school PTAs to the benefits of PTA. Make stronger regional PTA to take pressure off state PTA.
• What do we wan to see after 2 years as regional PTA
o Get a more broad membership of PTA, get a bigger reference for reflections for the next PTA reflection leader, get middle school and high school involved in PTA.
• Mission statement
o Better unity between region and local PTA, everyone doing a little can accomplish a lot, help to improve the lives of children at home and at school.
• BUDGET 2009-2010
o ESTIMATED INCOME
 $700 income– reel theatre ticket fundraiser ($1309 currently in account)
o COSTS - $1250
 Fall Conference - $250 ($140/$163 previous) - : Includes meal, door prizes
 Advocacy Day - $100
 Legislative Day - $100
 Reflections - $400
 Board expenses $100 (copies at Valley Office under PTA region 5)
 State Convention - $300
• REGION 5 MEETING DATES
o August 5 – fall training
o December 3 – regional meeting and turn in reflections
o March 4 – regional meeting
o May 6 – reflections open house/awards
• TRAINING CONFERENCE
o August 5 – first Wednesday in August
o PROPOSED OUTLINE
 6:00 -6:30 pm – dinner (soup and rolls, cookies), mingle with vendors, meet new PTA members, hand out information folders, enter for door prizes - (invite school board members)
 6:30 - Call meeting to order

• Presentation from 2 local units –
 7:15 – breakout session, 20 minutes
• President/Vice President
• Secretary – (ideas) how to take good minutes, e-mail, texts, getting info out, pink action forms, volunteer hours for non-profit status, board list, district numbers, evaluation sheets, standing rules, budget, calendars
• Treasurer – (ideas) money matters booklet
• Membership – would like to show OMDR on projector
• Legislative – show movie about money available from government
• Reflections – show tri-fold
• PTSA – High school (student involvement)
• 7:35 – Gather back

o Survey for what units want to see
o Dates of regional meetings for the year
